10-10-2011:

The number of psychological consultation eligible for the Medicare rebate is set to be cut.

The Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative, introduced in November 2006, has enabled the Australian public to receive the Medicare rebate for up to 18 consultations per calendar year. This has consisted of a maximum of 12 sessions in ordinary circumstances, and up to 18 sessions in exceptional circumstances. However, a decision in the recent 2011 Federal Budget has reduced this entitlement to a maximum of 10 sessions per calendar year, with no exceptional circumstances. This is due to come into effect on November 1st 2011. There have been very many objections to this change, and this has resulted in a Senate Committee now investigating this proposed change. The Committee may ratify the proposed change, or it may recommend that it be altered or rescinded. No date has yet been given as to when the Committee will deliver its recommendations.

18-2-2011:

Welcome to the new IPPP Website.

This re-building of this website has occurred through the joint efforts of Jose Gil, of Your Website Developers, and Clinical Psychologist (and IPPP Website Coordinator) Ed Zahra. This site now offers a new level of utility for both the public and the IPPP membership alike. You are invited to explore the site (though we are still in the process of correcting broken links and some out of date information transferred from the old site). Any suggestions for improvement, or reports of errors, will be gratefully received by the Website Coordinator at webmaster@psychologists.org.au. Special thanks, also, are extended to the kind and talented people at Hippo Envelopes who digitally re-mastered the logo (seen in the top left of your screen) that we use in this website.

Note for IPPP members:

Members will notice that their details are not yet entered into the searchable database, and that they cannot yet log-in. The registration process will commence soon. Members will be notified via email with a request for the required basic information. They will then be able to log in and complete their profile details (and be visible via the two search options).
